HOT WEATHER

Dear Families,

We are looking forward to a successful week ahead as we finish the school year. Over the next few days, we are anticipating hot weather that may require our school to implement our Hot Weather protocols.

As with any weather conditions at school, we respond to the individual needs of their students and staff and prepare an appropriate action plan. Our hot weather action plan involves program modifications, air handling system modifications and reduced lighting and motor use.

Such a plan may incorporate some of the following strategies which can be found in the Board’s Extreme Hot and Cold Weather and UV Protection Guideline:

  • Encourage students and staff to make use of shady areas in the school yard such as under trees, besides the building and under umbrellas.
  • Keep blinds/curtains closed in classrooms directly exposed to sunlight and turn off any unnecessary lights.
  • For hot, humid weather relief in classrooms or portables, Board-approved fans may be used to provide air movement in the room. Some classes may have to be relocated to cooler areas such as gymnasiums or libraries to provide relief.

In addition, students are encouraged to wear loose, light clothing, which will help to reduce body heat through moisture evaporation. Students are also encouraged to bring a refillable water container and to drink water throughout the day to keep hydrated.

Staff members will continue to monitor students throughout the day, and will be rotating classes through cooler areas in our building, as well as encouraging students to take frequent water breaks.

We would like to assure you that the health and well-being of students and staff is our priority and all of our schools have established a local plan of action to support all those in our schools.

PLAYDAY

All students will participate in Playday on Tuesday, June 23rd.  Please ensure your children come with a water bottle, applied sunscreen, a hat and consider an extra set of clothes as they may get wet (due to the hot weather).  Your child’s teacher will be sharing your child’s colour group for that day.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER

The first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year is Tuesday, September 2nd.  If you are moving and changing schools for the fall please ensure that the school knows as soon as possible.  More information will be sent during the week of August 25th

HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!  SEE YOU ON SEPTEMBER 2nd!

FAMILY DASHBOARD REPORT CARD ACCESS

Access Report Cards in the Family Dashboard When Available

As we reach the end of the school year, schools will be sharing student report cards by June 30 for elementary schools and July 10 for secondary schools. Report cards will be available in the Family Dashboard until July 30. You will receive an email when your child’s report card is available.

For families who do not yet have a Family Dashboard account, you can sign up for an account at any time at family.yrdsb.ca. You can find information on how to create an account on the Board website or in this instructional video

The Family Dashboard gives parents/guardians secure one-stop access to information and applications related to your child’s education. It is designed to make it easier for families to engage with their child’s education.

Please note, you can still request a printed copy of your child’s report card if you prefer by contacting your child’s school.

As we wrap up the school year, we also want to remind families that it’s important that the school has updated contact information for students and parents/guardians, including home address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contacts. This will ensure that the school can contact families in case of emergency, and also that you continue to receive important communications and updates from the school. Please contact the school directly with any changes.

EARLY DISMISSAL -JUNE 26 2025

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.  On Thursday, June 26, 2025, an early release day will take place to allow elementary staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day.  These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025 only.  Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:50 a.m.  Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time.  Families whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.
