COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES
On Tuesday, November 4th TPS will launch school-wide community-building activities. In the afternoon, all students will be placed in multi-grade groupings and work with a teacher to learn more about each other and to create a group cheer. The community-building teams will meet 4 times this month. We are excited to build new friendships in our school community!
REMEMBRANCE DAY
On Monday, Tuesday 11th, staff and students will take time to recognize Remembrance Day by gathering in the gym for a commemoration.
Each student in our school will receive a poppy to wear in honour of past and current service men and women of the Canadian Military. We are asking each child to donate a loonie. Donations will be sent to the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Campaign.
Please send in your donation with your child (in a sandwich bag or envelope). Many thanks for your generosity.
LEST WE FORGET – A mini Q & A about the Poppy Campaign
(From the Canadian Legion’s website at www.legion.ca)
- What does the poppy represent? The poppy represents the symbol of Remembrance.
- Why should I wear a poppy? When you wear a poppy or display a wreath, you honour the war dead and help ex-service personnel and their dependents.
- How can I help needy ex-service personnel and their dependents? Contribute to our Poppy Campaign. The basic purpose of poppy funds is to provide immediate assistance to ex-service members in need. This may include food, shelter, or medical attention for them or their families.
- Are there any other uses for poppy funds? Yes. Poppy funds can be used for low-rental housing and care facilities for the elderly or disabled, community medical appliances and medical research, day care centres, meals-on-wheels, transportation and related services for veterans and their dependents. Donations may be given for relief of disasters declared by the federal or provincial governments. Scholarships and bursaries are also provided for needy dependents or ex-service members.
Thank you for your support!

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Please read the information below regarding parent-teacher interview booking. Interviews will take place on November 20th and 21st. On Monday, November 3rd, you will receive an email through EDSBY inviting you to book an interview with your child’s teacher.
---
Parents’ Night is on Thursday, November 20th in the evening and Friday, November 21st during the day. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)’s teacher(s) in person, and learn more about the classroom. Edsby is the online tool supported for scheduling elementary interviews/conferences. Families will receive an invitation to sign up for a meeting time once the schedules are available.
Edsby is a cloud-based platform that lets families easily reserve times to meet with your child(ren)’s teachers. YRDSB in partnership with Edsby have created a secure platform that protects the privacy of information for families.
Families that already have an Edsby account may use their previously created account. The username is the full email address that is on file at your child(ren)’s home school and the password is the one created at activation. If you have forgotten your password, you can find resources on the Board website to help, including how to reset your password.
Families who do not have an Edsby account will need to create one to access the online appointment scheduler for their child’s teachers for Parents’ Night. An up-to-date and valid email address must be provided to your child’s home school. For help creating an Edsby account, instructions can be found on the Board website. An email from York Region District School Board with instructions on how to create an Edsby account will be sent to your email inbox. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk mail folder to ensure you do not miss this opportunity.
Below is the sample invitation email sent to parent(s)/guardian(s) on behalf of YRDSB.

If you have any questions about this process please contact our main office for support.
If you have any challenges with meeting in-person on the scheduled days, please contact your child’s teacher.
For help signing up for Parent-Teacher interviews, please visit our board website.
